Double L Stable Equine Rescue & Sanctuary:  Located in Argyle, New York and operated by Shannon Hahn.  Double L is a sanctuary first and foremost for the equines of the northeast that need a safe place to live. We deal with abuse, neglect, slaughter-bound, ex-racers, and other 'unwanted' or 'at risk' equines. We are a 25 acre 18 stall facility with lots of open pasture for the horses to run. Each horse is provided its own stall for eating and sleeping and staying out of the bad weather. We got our start with the PaSPCA in the 90's in Lancaster Co. Pa and then moved the entire barn to the Adirondack region of upstate New York. The move was made to be able to enlarge the sanctuary as well as the retirement portion of the stable. We still will take in rescues for the PSPCA when called on as well as working with local law enforcement. We also work with a few other rescues to broaden the adoption area for their equines. Occassionaly we do auction rescue as well. If you are interested in sponsoring an auction rescue let us know. Any new horse entering the barn is kept in a quarantine situation untill deamed healthy. Visitors are always welcome in the barn but we ask that you try to call ahead.

Colorado Thoroughbred Rescue: [CTR] is a 100% volunteer based organization and no member receives a salary for their commitment.  Colorado TB Rescue's mission is, through education and awareness, demonstrate how thoroughbred horses that were discarded in the past can go on to excel in hunter, jumpers, dressage, eventing, pleasure riding, or as pasture companions. CTR researchs the horses’ tattoo and contacts the previous owner or trainer to alert them where there once-prized horse has traveled to. CTR's goal is to educate the public and equine professionals about the gross number of sound, riding broke, young horses that are sold for slaughter each year.  The DeSarno family has been involved with horse rescue since 2001, prior to moving to Colorado in 2006. CTR was established in November 2006 and received 501c3 status in December of 2007.  Type of Rescue: Rehab and Adoption.  Fostering procedures: Most horses kept on CTR property and approved foster homes, some horses are boarded at a local trainer and a local boarding facility when CTR facilities are full. All horses have an individualized diet, their own stall, and daily turnout.  Adoption policies: Rigorous Screening Process- a 2 page Placement Contract.  Full ownership is never transferred through the brand inspection.  Website Address & Contact Information:

The Exceller Fund:   Federal 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.  The Exceller Fund works to transition Thoroughbred horses to a second career off the track.  The Exceller Fund purchases "at risk" horses and cares for them until an adoptive home is found or retirement for a few horses when sponsorship is provided. The Exceller Fund also works to facilitate the placement of horses directly from slaughter auctions, feedlots, or "at risk" situations to local horse rescue organizations.  We work with many other organizations in any capacity we can in order to save as many Thoroughbreds as possible.  The Exceller Fund is an organization of more than 100 racing fans and horse lovers who make a commitment to care for our horses who are making their transition off the racetrack.  Our members are located all over the U.S. and Canada, and stay in touch through e-mail and our bi-monthly electronic newsletters.  Members participate by voting on the fund's activities and on the horses we purchase.  At the beginning of every month, members send their donation to The Exceller Fund, Inc..  These monthly donations are used to care for our horses until they are adopted into a permanent home. The minimum donation per member is $15 per month.   Any remaining money is put into a special rescue fund, which is used for purchasing new horses in need of a loving home.
